Morningstar Investor: What’s New

Upcoming Updates to Morningstar Investor

We’re making changes to how you access and use Investor’s tools.

Since the launch of Morningstar Investor in 2022, we’ve looked for feedback from subscribers to help improve Investor’s tools and shape its evolution as a catalyst for making better investment decisions. Based on that invaluable feedback, we’ll be making changes in the months ahead that improve how you access and use Investor.

In late August, we’ll integrate Investor’s core tools, including Portfolios (which will be called Portfolio at launch), Screener, and Watchlists, into Morningstar.com. That means you’ll be able to access all our research, data, ratings, and portfolio tools, alongside daily insights from our trusted contributors, all on Morningstar.com. With everything in one place, you can find, evaluate, and monitor investments with more ease (and hopefully fewer open tabs). And since you’re an Investor subscriber, you’ll continue to get perks like unlimited access to all our data, ratings, insights, and reports across Morningstar.com.

Why we’re making this change

Feedback has shown that two sites are not, in fact, better than one. Our subscribers have a clear preference toward a single destination for Investor’s tools versus two separate ones, so we’re returning to a single-site experience.

While we make this change, we’ll also be setting a critical foundation for much-anticipated enhancements to other tools, including Portfolio. All the work in the months ahead will focus on bringing you the features you’ve been asking for.

What to expect moving forward

You can expect to see the following starting in late August 2024:

  • Investor’s core tools will be accessible on Morningstar.com. Just sign in with the same email and password you use for Investor; all your portfolios, watchlists, saved screens, and custom views will be there. There will be no change to your Investor subscription.

  • Investor as a destination (investor.morningstar.com) will not be accessible, and you’ll be redirected to Morningstar.com to sign in.

Tools in Navigation

  • Tools such as Portfolio, Screener, and Watchlists will be accessible from the main navigation of Morningstar.com. Former Premium users will be able to access legacy Portfolio Manager via the Portfolio tool.

  • You can find investment ideas via our Best Investment lists, which we’ve expanded to include more topics than ever before. You can even launch any investment list in Screener. Try them out now on Morningstar.com; they’re already live.

  • The new Markets page features most of the widgets available on Investor’s Markets hub complemented by news and insights from our seasoned authors, market movers, expanded coverage of indexes, and extensive data on sectors. (It’s also already live, so take it for a spin today.) We’ll be adding to the Markets experience in the coming months, with the addition of a new earnings calendar and more inroads to data on market fair value, currencies, and commodities.

  • While Investor’s Follow feature will not be accessible on Morningstar.com, you can stay on top of your favorite contributors by searching for them on Morningstar.com or signing up for one of our free email newsletters.

  • Investor subscribers will still have access to Mo, Morningstar’s AI research assistant. Just look for the Ask Mo icon in the upper right-hand corner of Morningstar.com.

  • We’ll also launch a new, more comprehensive Help Center to help you make the most of your subscription and get support when you need it.

  • The Morningstar mobile app will also get an upgrade during this time. Both manual and linked accounts will be available for all portfolios, and those using legacy Portfolio Manager can access both legacy data points and watchlists.

What’s next for Investor

Once Investor is fully integrated into Morningstar.com, we’ll move on to highly requested updates to Portfolio and Screener. We’ve already hit the ground running and released updates to Stock Intersection, which can now analyze any number of holdings––no more restrictions. We’ve also brought back the ability to instantly see your exposure to individual stocks via Morningstar’s stock quote pages.

We’ll work to roll out more enhancements and updates throughout the rest of 2024 and will communicate each release along the way.

A note on legacy Portfolio Manager: Legacy Portfolio Manager will still be available for use. We will not retire it until Investor’s Portfolio experience has reached substantial parity with the legacy version.

There’s a lot to do, but we’re more driven than ever to deliver an experience that makes it easier––and more enjoyable––to invest for yourself. We thank you for your continued support as we work to make Investor better.

Happy investing,

Adley Bowden, head of Individual Investor, and the Morningstar Investor team
